NRG Swimming Directions to Our FacilitiesMeet Our Coaches
Raymond Keown: Head Coach and Team ManagerEmail RayCoach Ray has been a continuous part of NRG Swimming for 18 years and has served as acoach for NRG for the past 7 years, recently taking over as NRG’s head coach. He began coaching for NRG in 2002, learning under Elite Coaches and NRG Founders Bill and Kathy Trabosh and has, in his tenure, coached all levels and age groups, from 8 and under Minis to Senior Elite. Coach Ray’s deep personal commitment to NRG Swimming has him focused and researching new techniques and ideas to keep NRG fresh, current, and constantly improving. His other credentials include ASCA and USA swimming coaching memberships, as well as continuing to maintain the lead Red Cross swim instructor position for Neshaminy Aquatics. Coach Ray also swam for NRG prior to becoming a member of the coaching staff, and was a part of the team that won Franklin and Marshall’s Holiday Classic. Coach Ray was also recently inducted into the Neshaminy Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a member of the Neshaminy High School swim team. Coach Ray has a deep personal commitment to NRG Swimming. Swimming has been an integral part of his life for many years and he integrates the personal lessons of focus, commitment, success, and team spirit into the NRG program. In his role as head coach he will be involved in all aspects of the team including giving personal attention to all swimmers, with a strong focus on technique as well as personal development. Katie Bateman: Head Age Group CoachEmail KatieCoach Katie started coaching at the age of 16, as both a CYSL assistant and YMCA instructor and has been at NRG since 2004 coaching a variety of groups. Her swimming career encompasses a diverse assortment of teams and leagues including Torresdale Frankford Country Club, Our Lady of Calvary, Bensalem Aquatic Club and NRG Swimming, all while battling chronic asthma. Her high school career at Nazareth Academy High School, in conjunction with her club swimming, prepared her to continue on at Rider University where she was part of the first female MAAC Conference championship team as a backstroker and distance swimmer, in addition to being named a Scholar Athlete. While at Rider, Coach Katie earned a B.S. in Marine Biology and Theater and then continued on to Holy Family University for a M.Ed. in Elementary Education. She now uses those degrees to teach Middle School science, in addition to her position with NRG Swimming. She looks forward to working with the youngest NRG swimmers and helping them prepare for a fun and competitive career in USA swimming. Michelle Carter: Assistant CoachCoach Michelle was a flagship member of NRG Swimming, since its inception in 1989, and has continued on with her career in the sport through coaching for NRG for the last 10 years. Coach Michelle has served as coach for a variety of the groups at NRG and truly enjoys the mentoring aspect of her coaching career. In her short break from NRG swimming, Coach Michelle attended the University of Richmond where she was named a Scholar Athlete as well as captain of their swim team during her Junior and Senior years. Her academic career earned her a B.S. in Leadership Studies and Sports Science from UR, in addition to her M.S. in Sports Psychology from Cappella University. Coach Michelle also works for a specialty glass shop in sales and accounting. Andrei Loutchouk: Assistant Coach and Website ManagerEmail AndreiA native of Kiev, Ukraine, Coach Andrei began swimming at an early age. His swimming career took a detour through Budapest, Hungary where he swam under one of Hungary’s top coaches, before finding a home at NRG Swimming under Kathy and Bill Trabosh in 1993. Coach Andrei also swam for both Neshaminy High School, which he graduated from, and Lower Moreland High School where he set a team record in the 500 freestyle in 2001. Coach Andrei is currently continuing his education to earn a M.S. in Computer Engineering from Drexel. Coach Andrei came back to NRG Swimming to become an assistant coach in 2007 and has worked with both the Gold and Junior groups. He had success as a swimmer at NRG while enjoying every minute of it. He believes that the knowledge he gained from his great coaches combined with his personal experiences can be passed on to NRG swimmers so that they too can reach their potential. Swimming for NRG allowed him to do well in high school - both athletically, and academically, and he hopes to inspire NRG swimmers to achieve even greater success. Erin Bateman: Head NRGizer InstructorCoach Erin began coaching for NRG Swimming as an age group coach in 2007 and is recently returning to NRG as the head of the NRGizers swim program. Coach Erin began her swim instruction with the CYSL team Our Lady of Calvary and as WSI instructor of swimmers of all ages. She also swam for Our Lady of Calvary, Torresdale Frankford Country Club and Bensalem Aquatic Club, in addition to her time at NRG Swimming. She graduated from Nazareth Academy where she was a member of both the swimming and golf teams. She is a graduate of both Temple University in Biology and Drexel University in Medical Billing and Coding, the latter of which she uses in her current profession as a medical biller, in addition to her career as a Technology Education teacher at the elementary level. Coach Erin enjoys working with the up-and-coming swimmers who are looking to learn all about this competitive sport.
